The Reuters News Agency is reporting the United States is intending to establish a military presence at an airbase in southern Syria to help implement a future peace agreement between Israel and Syria. The country is now controlled by former Al Qaeda jihadi Abu Mohammed al-Golani, now known as Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa.

The Syrian leader is meeting with President Trump at The White House on November 10th in an historic meeting. Al-Sharaa was recently supported into office by Turkish special forces, and likely American CIA assets to put an end to the Syrian civil war.

The intended base is located near southern Syria, an area expected to become a demilitarized zone as part of a non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria. Over the past two months, the Pentagon has accelerated its plans through several reconnaissance missions, including landing a U.S. C-130 transport aircraft to assess the usability of the runway. A Syrian defense official confirmed these flights were conducted to verify the base's operational readiness.

There are two million Sunni Syrian refugees currently living in Lebanon, getting aid to stay their by international groups. The Lebanese Christian community would like to see them return to Syria now that the war is over and their safety is secured.

The U.S. presence would serve logistical, surveillance, refueling, and humanitarian purposes, while Syria would retain full sovereignty over the facility. The reported objective is to help monitor the implementation of the potential agreement between Syria and Israel, added Reuters.
