I sat down with one of the primary moderators of the Army Reddit page (@r/army) to discuss the current climate and issues facing the soldiers in barracks life. We also discussed the response the Army put out in MILPER (think Army memo) and the ALARACT (All Army Activities Message), in reference to the reports about the Army allegedly stealing $151 Million in BAS (Basic Allowance Sustenance) at 11 bases. This response comes months after the initial article broke the story. The response feels like a halfhearted attempt to deflect from the issue and not cause a scene. The Army is trying to use the Jedi mind trick on us and tell us, "There is nothing to see here; move along." Why are they deflecting?
Another point that was brought up was the regulations for on base dining facilities (DFACs). Should the DFACs be run by civilian contractors? Should the Army change policies, or try another program? What is up with the kiosks and campus style dining initiatives? These are topics we talked about as we tried to explain some of the thoughts and perspectives of the soldiers and leadership. Don't forget the Culinary Specialists (MOS 92G); they may feel attacked. All in all, this discussion is going to continue until Big Army decides it's a priority. We are looking at you Pete Hegseth (SECDEF) and Daniel Driscoll (SECARMY)! This administration is claiming transparency. Prove it!
We at Armed Forces Press will stay on top of this and continue to bring this into the light. For more on this topic check out my other videos here on AFP and check out US Army Reddit page and www.hotscots.app to get a visual of what is going on.
Stealing money from active duty military. Heinous.
