The U.S. launched several airstrikes on the eastern Syrian city of Deir Ezzor on Tuesday. According to reports, the strikes focused on the regions of Hatla and Kasham.
The strikes came the day after a U.S. occupation base in the Deir Essor's Conoco gas field was struck during a rocket attack.
"An ineffective rocket attack targeted coalition forces, at Mission Support Site Conoco, northeast Syria, today at 10:51 AM Eastern Standard Time (approximately 5:51 PM local time in Syria). One rocket struck the vicinity of the coalition outpost, and an additional rocket was found at the attack's point of origin," a US Central Command (CENTCOM) statement said.
"The attack resulted in no injuries or damage to the case or coalition property," the statement concluded.
According to Al-Mayadeen news, sources said that the attack was "carried out with several rockets" and that "no information is available on the size of the losses inside" the coalition base.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that U.S. forces shot down a drone that was believed to be Iranian at the time of the attack. The downed drone fell in Al-Tabiyah village in the countryside east of Deir Ezzor.
There has been a recent increase in attacks on U.S. bases in Syria, which have been attributed to groups affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Zerohedge, in another drone strike on March 23, a U.S. occupation base at Haskah's Kharab al-Jir military airport in the northeast was targeted, which resulted in the death of a U.S. contractor and wounded several U.S. servicemen. That evening, U.S. forces struck Deir Ezzor in response. That strike targeted Iranian advisors and the Syrian military.
Another U.S. base in the Al-Omar oilfield and a second base were attacked simultaneously on the night of March 24, in retaliation for the U.S. strikes the day before. That strike was not anticipated by the U.S. military and led to additional casualties for U.S. forces.
The rise in attacks has been in response to the continued illegal occupation of parts of the country by U.S. troops, and the looting of Syria's natural resources under the guise of deterring ISIS.
According to a report by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar on March 25, the attacks are part of a Russian-Iranian plan to pressure Washington into removing its military presence in Syria.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is preparing for additional strikes against its bases in Syria. On April 10, SOHR reported that U.S. forces in northeastern Hasakah have been reinforcing bases with logistical and military supplies. A U.S. military official vowed last month that Washington would respond to any strikes with 'harsh' attacks against the IRGC in Syria.
