In an ongoing effort to help Texas Governor Greg Abbott secure the Texas border, the governors of Virginia and West Virginia have announced that they will be joining other Republican-led states in sending National Guard troops south to the border.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced Wednesday morning that he would be deploying 100 of the state's National Guard troops to assist Abbott's efforts.
"The ongoing border crisis facing our nation has turned every state into a border state," Youngkin said.
"As leadership solutions at the federal level fall short, states are answering the call to secure our southern border, reduce the flow of fentanyl, combat human trafficking, and address the humanitarian crisis. Following a briefing from Governor Abbott last week, Virginia is joining other states to deliver on his request for additional assistance," he concluded.
Also on Wednesday, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced that his state would also deploy 50 National Guard troops to the border.
"I know our National Guard will do incredible work, and we'll wish them Godspeed to get home safe and sound," Justice said.
"I thank them all for their incredible bravery and for stepping up yet against to answer the call," he added.
According to ZeroHedge, Abbott has been utilizing state resources in recent months to prepare the border for the expected flood of illegal migrants as the May 11 expiration of TItle 42 approached. He has not only used Texas National Guard troops but also officers with the Department of Public Safety to help set up razor fences and to turn away people trying to enter illegally from Mexico.
On May 16, shortly after Title 42 expired, 24 Republican governors signed a letter vowing to support Abbott's efforts to secure the Texas border. Several Republican-led states have since deployed their National Guard troops and state police to assist at the border, with Youngkin and Justice being the most recent governors to send reinforcements.
