There has been a climax for the time being of the stand off between the Philippines and China on the Scarborough and Second Thomas Shoals on the West Upper side of the Philippines.
This story of how China was able to electronically overwhelm a U.S. led, 29 nation alliance has started to make the rounds. Be vigilant on checking the source. I can’t figure out who CMGM works for. The same story has been in Eurasian Times and the South China Morning Post (SCMP). Eurasian may be Canadian-Indian - but that’s not clear and it can still be a front operation. The SCMP used to be a the trusted, respected, English Language newspaper in Asia - a Murdoch holding. No longer true, it is now controlled by the Chinese Communist Party and is the singular location of many trial balloons the CCP releases to gauge Western reaction.
The EW shoot out story is a bit fuzzy and sketchy. I’m not confident in the state of affairs with the American military at all, but this story emits a CCP like, information warfare odor.
This story essentially recycles the Chinese academic journal Radar & ECM and was highlighted by Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post. Multiple echo chambers of CCP recycling.
The whole EW game is a function of output power. The Chinese ship based jamming likely can put out more megawatts than the American EF-18 Growler (the Aussies also have 24, EF-18s).
Two issues are not addressed in the story; first, did the U.S. capabilities operate in "Warmode"? Second, the more powerful the transmitter, the easier the target for an ARM Missile (Anti-Radiation Missile which uses the emitter as the target).
The U.S. capabilities were unlikely switched to Warmode which can have special capabilities and features reserved for the real thing. The Chinese might have been able to push out stronger RF broadcast power for jamming - but would not have been around long with incoming ARMs. The stronger the emitter, the better the target for an ARM. So decisive power output is fleeting in its superiority.
Something may have taken place and I’m uncomfortable with the state of our military (and all American instruments of national power), but the sources and textual descriptions are a bit suspect also.
