The chaos and violence of the Hamas Assault from the Gaza Strip into Israel was reminiscent of the 1973 surprise attack by Egyptian and Syrian forces into Israel that caught the Israeli’s off guard and initiated the airlift to save Israel where American tanks were pulled out of the motor pools of U.S. Army armored units and flown directly to Israel in Operation Nickel Grass. Within minutes of landing these fueled and armed tanks were driven directly off U.S. Air Force C-5s into combat to ensure Israel would not fall.
The coordinated, rehearsed breaching of the walls and barriers of the Gaza Strip in the last few days reflected sophisticated planning as Israeli security forces were overwhelmed by Hamas forces that sallied forth at multiple points including an airborne para-glide assault directly into an Israeli Rave Festival at Kibbutz Re’im.
It would not be surprising if the billions of dollars of arms and ammunition abandoned in Afghanistan played a role. The smuggling into the Gaza Strip is relentless despite Israeli interdiction attempts. Iran is helping narco-sub construction in Colombia - this is likely an enabler of arms trafficking into the Gaza Strip. Biden’s Fast and Furious Program on steroids.
What’s the strategic endstate desired by Hamas? Violence and bloodshed to undermine the Saudi-Israeli peace discussions. Hamas is a proxy of Iran. Iran is a proxy of China. China is ultimately the puppet master, but Joe Biden and his team created this bloodshed and misery by releasing $6B of fresh funding to Iran.
