Here we go again.
In the wake of the Vietnam experience, Big Army needed someone to blame. They chose to blame the Special Forces/Special Operations Community. A career Tanker and non-Special Operator, General Creighton Abrams felt differently. Abrams was the Commander of the 37th Tank Battalion in the 4th Armored Division, who General Patton personally lauded in 1944/45. Abrams saw the critical role and value of Special Operations in Vietnam and fought for them as Army Chief of Staff until his untimely death in 1974. After his death, Big Army demolished the Special Forces, Ranger, Civil Affairs, and PSYOP community. That changed with Desert One in 1980.
Now, as the US Military slowly responds to the China threat in the Pacific and Chinese adventurism around the world, what does Big Army do? They attack and destroy the Army Special Operations Community. 3,000 slots to be eliminated in the Active, Guard, and Army Reserve. They say these are vacant slots, no harm, no foul. But why are they vacant? One word: “Wokism”.
Christine Wormuth, Secretary of the Army, at first ignored, then made fun of, and now attacks the label of “Wokism”. Big Army is right behind her. Big Army is plodding, slow, and has the turning radius of a million miles. They like forever wars and filling deployment cycles to large footprint basecamps that perpetuate forever wars. They are uninterested in achieving victory or success, Big Army is far more concerned with enabling the process to sustain forever wars. The success of the Special Operations Army mindset and strategy with a far more flexible, adaptable, and smaller footprint, drives them crazy and undermines the objectives of Big Army. Wormuth and the ideologues see the Special Operations as the last bastion of White Privilege and White Rage to be dissolved.
The Army, the Bigger Army needs the Army Special Operations Community more than ever. The craven ideologies of the cults of “Wokeism” and Big Army will gladly dispense with Army Special Operations - the single major contribution of Bigger Army to deterrence and victory if necessary in the Pacific against China. Army Special Operations and a renaissance in innovative Army Watercraft force structure is what is needed for the Joint Force in the Pacific. One of the 30 or so understrength, conventional Army Brigade Combat Teams can be dissolved and be the billpayer for the 3,000 or so slots if Big Army needs a sacrificial lamb.
20 years in military, saw very few officers who were real warriors. Most were ass-kissing ticket punchers. One close experience is an E-5 who failed E-6 test X 4 married well and retired a Bird Colonel! Couldn't find his ass with both hands! Same reports from others. Know multiple kids today who thought of a military career but upon looking closely said no way, far too woke, joining today is death wish from incompetence and inclusion.
