The Navy has never been the same since 1967 when the Martin Marlin was retired and has never recovered. Similarly, Army has never been the same since “The Big Picture” went off the air in 1971.
Special Operations Command is leading the charge for a return of the Seaplane - it makes perfect sense in the Western Pacific. Hopefully they can drive this to implementation without the normal Pentagon dysfunction.
