Pakistan, Kuwait agree to expand military cooperation. Pakistan will provide training, capacity building, border management and other military assistance to Kuwait under the newly signed Protocol Agreement.
Defense Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah visited Pakistan on Thursday, during which he signed a protocol with Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Rawalpindi.
The Armed Forces of Pakistan under the new framework will assist Kuwait in defense of the country including in matters related to defense training and capacity building for border management and other matters as mutually decided by both sides. The new protocol would further strengthen the existing military relations, the Ministry of Defense said.
The visit has taken place at a time when the regional scenario is experiencing a lot of changes in the wake of Iran conflict that erupted on February 5, 2026. The Kuwait Armed Forces are fighting several battles against Iran’s attacks and in the process have been assessing and readjusting their security parameters. Sources had also reported that the Kuwait government had asked Pakistan to enhance its military cooperation with Kuwait. However, sources in Pakistan’s military and defense establishment have confirmed that they have not been asked for deployment of Pakistani troops to defend Kuwait.
The Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan which will treat an attack on any of the signatories as an attack on all, is another development of deepening Pakistan’s defense relations with the countries of the region as the regional security environment keeps changing.
The two countries also discussed regional security issues during the visit. The Pakistani military said that the engagement aimed to convert historic brotherly relations into more robust defense partnership.
