One of the most power full shipping lines in the world (built by buying one of the last great American Shipping Companies, Sealand) has chosen to walk away from their participation in Jones Act Shipping and participation with Transportation Command (TRANSCOM).
This should be a screaming alarm bell this morning in the halls of the Pentagon, Foggy Bottom, Departments of Transportation and Commerce, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and the West Wing. But alarm bells like this are drowned out by transgender and “renewable energy” virtue signalling.
If a nation doesn’t build things, build things that build things, and have a pervasive Merchant Fleet and modern shipyard infrastructure, they are not a nation.
A coffeeshop on every street corner and a cubicle farm workforce of activists writing environmental impact statements for non-profits is not an economy, it’s a nation in decline.
This is one more reason to establish a Jones Act 2.0 environment for a return of a dominant US Flag Merchant Fleet secured by a much larger Navy. It’s also additional fodder for establishing a US Flag Boskalis like Heavy Lift Fleet for Naval recovery and regeneration during conflict.
When it’s not needed for Naval purposes, this specialized Heavy Lift Fleet can be leased to support large scale infrastructure projects at home and in other countries seeking U.S. Companies as alternatives to the Chinese Belt and Road ponzi scheme.
