After you realize that today's left— with aligned media— isn't so truthful or forthcoming regarding a number of key issues, you begin to wonder how much left influence has even shaped something like US Nazi history (and the still classified San Francisco District US Naval Intelligence Nazi files). We do hear about the working class, and then those politicians like Minnesota Sen. Ernest Lundeen (speaking under the Nazi flag in New York below), Henry Ford because it's far too known, and aviator Charles Lindbergh.

Off the corporate left media and research radar are predictably folks like J. Paul Getty, post mortem with left influence today via the Getty Museum and other research entities. (See his declassified FBI file, Hoover was on him.) Also, there were the Rockefellers and Standard Oil, with New York museum interests, and legacy foundation interests. All one has to do is look just below the surface to find shocking pro-Nazi business activity in the 1930s.
Next, the British royal / Hitler ally trip across America
However, below the highest tier, a shocking tour of America by the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Karl Eduard (multiple spellings), a British royal and Hitler ally, has fallen completely off the historical radar. However, it is well-documented in historical newspapers and archival sources.
This trip included the Duke meeting hundreds of US elites across the country in various cities. The European war had already begun and the US was neutral until the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Travelling from Germany, and via Russia and Japan, the stops of the Duke's tour in March-April 1940 included Honolulu - San Francisco - Chicago - Washington, DC - New York - Cleveland - Detroit - Chicago - Palm Springs / Los Angeles - Santa Barbara - San Francisco - Honolulu and back to northeast Asia. On the mainland he traveled by train. Several events were in classic, posh hotels across the country.
The Duke, an unofficial go-between for Edward and Wallis to Hitler, and also Hitler to London, was officially travelling as Head of the German Red Cross in a lightly disguised propaganda trip. He was travelling with Berlin and German Nazi embassy officials in DC.

American elites attended various events across the country, some enthusiastic, some with business ties to Germany, and others reluctantly, as detailed in historical media coverage.
Georg Gyssling, German Consul to Los Angeles, wrote in his now-declassified report for the German embassy in DC, that overall there were positive views of the attending elites, but it was the area Red Cross that weren't so keen. Gyssling steered the media coverage away from the hard-news journalists and shifted it to the softer-touch society editors.
As can be imagined, US and UK intelligence were following the trip to some degree along with the Duke's entourage. Even in the press, it was noted that Canada and France were watching closely.

Those that chose to play footsie with the Nazi Duke on his bizarre America tour, however, were in for a vomit-inducing surprise after WWII. It was revealed that the Duke was associated with unspeakable crimes in Germany. See the first two minutes of this documentary below to learn what they were.
Also, see this archival-oriented website showing seized and declassified German intelligence, numerous press cuttings, and a once-thought secret deposition of a woman that hosted an event for the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
If / when the Nazi files in the San Francisco District US Naval Intelligence archive are finally declassified— they are supposed to have been declassified years ago— we'll likely learn more about the dodgy Duke and his American friends, at least during the California legs of his trip.

Amazing story- never heard of this dual-citizen Duke before this article!
