Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is reportedly to leave his post as Secretary of the Army before the end of the year, reports The Wall Street Journal. He was likely ousted by the Trump administration after he refused to go along with two key initiatives that Secretary of War Hegseth wanted to push through the Army. He wanted to eliminate DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) efforts within the force and he wanted to reverse the Army's deep integration with Ukraine and return the service to a focus on American priorities.
Driscoll is a Ukraine ally, who with Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George launched the Army Transformation Initiative (ATI) earlier this year. It is being built around integrating the U.S. military with globalist Ukraine. Driscoll at the same time was fighting Hegseth's efforts to remove DEI from the Army and restore a warfighting culture based on merit, rather than on ideology.
Hegseth fired Gen. George in April 2026. Driscoll said at the time he had no plans to leave as Secretary of the Army, but it looks like he will be leaving before the end of the year.
Both aspects are currently being reversed by Hegseth. The drone battalion, which Driscoll and George had stood up in order to implement Ukraine-war doctrine inside American force structure, is being disbanded. In the same manner, the DEI structures which Driscoll had safeguarded are currently being dismantled. The broader globalist transformation agenda is being unwound.
When Driscoll departs, Hegseth will be able to put in place the kind of leadership that will execute his vision — a warfighting-focused, merit-based Army built on American priorities, not foreign war doctrine and ideological capture. With no Senate-confirmed Army Chief of Staff in place, that reset can now begin in earnest.
